Better, faster, cheaper! The ultimate DLSR camera from startup, Light

True DSLR quality just got better, faster and much cheaper

As any photographer will tell you, the biggest challenge with DSLR photography is bulk. The camera body is bulky but you then need to add the lens. And if you’re a serious photographer, you may have three or fours lenses. So now you have a camera bag to tote them all in. And then when you want to take a spontaneous shot, you had better hope you’ve got the right lens on.

This new camera, from start-up Light, is the size of a mobile phone including 16 – yes, sixteen, built in lenses. But wait… it gets better. When you push that shutter button, ten of those lenses work together to give you the ‘perfect photo’. The on-board software converts those 10 images to a single image of up to 52 megapixels!

The unit also has full Android functionality together with built-in Wi-Fi so that you can post that perfect shot to your gallery or upload it to your cloud storage.

At $USD1,299 it isn’t cheap, but it is a bargain compared to the cost of a conventional, high quality DSLR camera and lenses. And then, of course, there’s the incredible convenience!

The camera will not be available until the US summer but Light is taking orders now. Be warned that their order form is totally US-centric (grrrrr) and you will have to email them if you don’t have a US address. Thankfully, the camera is a lot smarter than the person who designed the order form :(
